Foreign investment in El Salvador stood at $262.6 million dollars (mdd) in the first quarter of this year, showed the report of economic results of the second quarter presented by the Central Reserve Bank (BCR).
The BRC study showed that the industry sector received $148.9 million dollars of foreign investment in El Salvador, followed by services with $115.9 million dollars. In addition, the communications sector obtained $57.4 million dollars, while electricity $51.7 million dollars.

Spain is the country that invested the most in El Salvador in the first semester of 2023, with $105.3 million dollars, followed by Mexico with $94.1 million dollars. Foreign direct investment in El Salvador from the United States was $78.7 million dollars.

However, El Salvador registered negative FDI inflows in 2022 (-101 million dollars), which means a variation of -133% in relation to 2021, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
This situation is explained by disinvestments in the manufacturing sector (-$294 million), which could not be compensated by investments in services, which were also reduced compared to 2021 (-35%), so foreign investment in El Salvador was affected
