El Salvador's aeronautical industry is positioned as a reference in the region

El Salvador offers more than 200 maintenance, repair, and overhaul services to major airlines in North and Latin America, with a focus on aircraft such as Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer.

El Salvador continues its commitment to strengthen the aeronautical industry as part of the strategies to continue boosting the national economy, from different areas that encourage the development of the country.

The geographic location, competitive infrastructure, investment incentives, as well as interconnection with the Central American region and the world, are part of the country’s attractions to boost investments in this industry, informed the Investment and Export Promotion Agency of El Salvador (Invest in El Salvador).

Likewise, the institution indicated that for more than 40 years the different companies in the area have positioned El Salvador as a world reference in the maintenance, repair, and operation of commercial aircraft.

He explained that to date, the country offers an average of more than 200 maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services to major airlines in North America and Latin America, with a focus on aircraft such as Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer.

These services include commercial aircraft maintenance operations, aeronautical ground services, helicopter maintenance and assembly operations, as well as the manufacture of LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) airframes and parts for wingtips, engines, and commercial aircraft interior painting and maintenance.

The country also stands out for the manufacture of plastic and metal mechanical parts, aerostructure sub-assembly, component maintenance workshops, aeronautical parts distribution and warehousing services, and assembly of aeronautical harness systems.

In addition, the government institution affirmed that for many years, companies in the sector such as Avianca, Aeroman, ICCAE Aviation Training, ASG AirSupport Group, and HELICA have bet on the skilled labor of El Salvador.

On the other hand, according to a report by Invest in El Salvador, up to the first half of last year, aircraft maintenance and repair exports totaled $148 million and contributed to the dynamization of the Salvadoran economy.

“The current Government of El Salvador has identified that the aeronautical industry is one of the sectors with exceptional potential, increasingly attractive and dynamic in El Salvador, from which technological development, employment, investment, and tourism are promoted through air connections,” said the State agency.

To strengthen this industry, the Government launched an Aerocluster to integrate local suppliers into the national and international value chain of the aeronautical and aerospace sector; which is governed under the concept of the Triple Helix, from which the Government, academia, and the private sector, will enhance the growth of this area.
