Using a destination significance score, the VisaGuide Passport Index https://visaguide.world/passport/index/ evaluates 199 countries and territories on the countries to which they have visa-free access.

The VisaGuide Passport Index is a passport ranking system that evaluates 199 countries and territories based on factors such as visa-free access, visa on arrival, e-visas and global mobility. It uses the Destination Significance Score (DSS) to assign a unique value to each passport.

The Singaporean passport is the strongest passport in the world, with a score of 91.27 as of September 2024. It is followed by the Spanish, French, Italian and Hungarian passports, respectively, to complete the list of the five strongest passports for 2024, according to the report.

Among the countries of the Central American region, Costa Rica ranks 58th globally in the VisaGuide Passport Index, up from 60th place last July. Currently, Costa Rican citizens can travel without a visa to 118 countries, need an eVisa for 14 countries and must apply for a visa to visit 22 others.

It is followed by Panama, which ranks 60th (up from 61st in July). As of September 2024, Panamanian passport holders enjoy visa-free access to 114 countries and territories and can easily obtain eVisas for travel to 29 countries.

The VisaGuide Passport Index reveals that citizens of El Salvador can travel visa-free to 104 countries, require an e-visa for 31 countries and must apply for a visa to visit 22 others, ranking 71st, up one notch from July.

As of September, the Honduran passport ranks 78th globally in VisaGuide’s Passport Index, up one place from July. Honduran citizens can travel visa-free to 102 countries, require an e-visa for 21 countries and must apply for a visa to visit a further 22.

Finally, there is Nicaragua’s passport, which ranks 86th globally, a drop of two rungs compared to last July’s Passport Index.

Currently, Nicaraguan citizens can travel without a visa to 97 countries, need an electronic visa for 11 countries and must apply for a visa to visit 22 others.
