Almost 40% of the 3.9 million tourists that El Salvador received in 2024 came from the United States, followed by Guatemala and Honduras, reports the Ministry of Tourism.

El Salvador registró un notable incremento en la cantidad de visitantes durante 2024 al registrar 3.9 millones de turistas, un crecimiento de 17 % más respecto a 2023, reportó el Ministerio de Turismo.
The head of the ministry, Morena Valdez, said that the country continues to consolidate its position as one of the most outstanding destinations in the region, which has allowed it to reach historic figures in foreign tourists and sustainable economic growth, thanks to the foreign exchange registered in recent years.
“We have grown more in tourists than in excursionists,” said Minister Valdez, noting that this achievement is the result of a comprehensive strategy that includes strengthening security, enhancing the different destinations, modernizing tourism infrastructure and continuous training of the sector.
He added that 80% of the registered visitors were tourists, i.e. people who stayed one night or more in the country. This data underscores the preference of travelers for El Salvador as a destination for extended stays, contributing significantly to the national economic dynamism.
“We had 12 million visitors in our national parks, there is a 14% growth, only in the Christmas village we had 2.5 million visitors,” said the official.
The increase in the number of tourists has had a positive impact on employment, the demand for services and the promotion of local products, directly benefiting the communities and micro-enterprises that form part of this value chain, Valdez explained.
