The Evangelical University of El Salvador (U.E.E.S.) was founded in 1981 as a private nonprofit corporation for public benefit, and to this day it maintains its institutional nature because it believes this is the organization best suited to fulfill its Vision, Mission, and commitment to God and society.
The University was founded by a group of evangelical Christian men, professionals, entrepreneurs, businessmen, and members of various evangelical churches and denominations, primarily from the Baptist, Assemblies of God, and Central American Mission Churches. Guided by the Lord Jesus Christ, they aimed to contribute to addressing the challenges in higher education within the context of El Salvador’s economic and social situation at the beginning of the decade, which had plagued the country for over ten years.
In those circumstances, drawing on the solid professional experiences of many of them in secondary and university education, and motivated solely by the opportunity for the evangelical community to contribute from the perspective of Kingdom values, they embarked on the project in January of that year. Academic activities began in June of the same year, offering several majors across six faculties: Medicine, Dentistry, Social Sciences, Agronomic Sciences, Engineering, and Architecture.
Additionally, the University started its activities under one of Christianity’s most auspicious symbols: what was once a Jewish Synagogue in the capital city, where it operated for several years until the need for growth required new space.
Responding to the demands of growth and legal requirements, the University, in 1995, embarked on the faith-driven project of constructing its own campus—a long-cherished dream. Trusting in God’s blessing, they acquired the necessary land in the northwest area of the city that year, followed by the phases of design, permits, and financing in 1996, and construction in 1997. The project became a beautiful reality in 1998, with its inauguration in January of that year, and academic activities commencing in the complex where the University now operates from February onwards.
Throughout the years, the Evangelical University has become one of the country’s finest universities, particularly due to its commitment to producing high-quality academic resources, a spirit of service to others, and an education that incorporates principles and values based on Sacred Scriptures.
