Experts from the technology giant shared knowledge on digital transformation with members of public institutions.

El Salvador held this Thursday at the National Library (BINAES) Google Cloud Day, an initiative conceived between the US technology giant and the local company Applaudo to promote the digital transformation of public institutions in the country.

The event, the first organized by Google after the establishment of its offices in the territory last month, brought together representatives of 100 state entities and members of both companies, who shared their experiences in activities such as workshops, conferences, and discussion forums.

One of the workshops on Design Thinking, a work scheme that maximizes creativity, was given by Gabriel Alvarado, Google’s manager of alliances with El Salvador. In the space, he explained how the technology firm was created and the strategies to develop its human resources applied in the countries where it operates.

Kevin Platero, commercial manager of the Government Segment of Applaudo Studios, said that the objective of this type of action is to show state organizations how they can contribute to the digital transformation of the nation from their operations.

“Being able to digitize an institution provides many benefits to the population. For example, digital procedures, which we can carry out through our smartphones, without having to leave our houses, avoid those queues that affect people and commerce. Also, how we can use information, important data so that we can transform it into decisions,” he said.

Among the success stories with Salvadoran government institutions that were shown was that of the National Registration Center (CNR), for the implementation of El Salvador Maps, a platform with a geographic information system of the country that was made in collaboration with Google.

“We were invited as the National Center of Registries to share our experiences in the joint work regarding digital transformation, process improvement, and projects that we have developed with Google and Applaudo,” said César Arriola, director of Innovation and Projects of the CNR.

Arriola also mentioned that the approach with the North American company allows them to deliver services with a digital signature, and electronic seal, as well as the facility to place documents in Google Cloud to secure data.

Google’s arrival in El Salvador responds to a seven-year agreement established with the administration of President Nayib Bukele to support El Salvador in its path to becoming a technology hub for Central America.

The alliance includes support to digitize government processes and projects with tools provided by the firm, such as a portfolio of hardware and software solutions.

Google also plans to incorporate its artificial intelligence technology to boost the national health system; in addition, there will be a commitment to increase the use of Google platforms in public education.

“This alliance is important because it is an accelerator to achieve the country’s digital transformation,” Platero concluded.
