The Minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, met with Phil Gordon, Security Advisor of the Vice Presidency of the United States to discuss measures to attract new investments for the country.
The Minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, held a meeting last Tuesday with the Security Advisor of the Vice Presidency of the United States, Phil Gordon, who is visiting El Salvador to discuss various issues with the administration of President Nayib Bukele.

Through a publication in the social network “X”, Gordon described the meeting in a positive tone and highlighted some of the issues they addressed such as the attraction of new investments and the generation of employment opportunities.
“Good discussion with the Minister of Economy of El Salvador, María Luisa Hayem, on how to promote investment and create jobs in El Salvador through key reforms, good governance and labor protections,” he said.
Likewise, the Salvadoran official indicated that from these discussions they hope to work together with the U.S. government to boost the local economy.
“Thank you for a productive meeting, Phil Gordon. We look forward to working together to attract new investments and create more employment opportunities in El Salvador”, the Salvadoran official wrote in X.
As detailed by the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador in a report, part of the discussions focused on evaluating collaboration in economic areas with initiatives promoted by Vice President Kamala Harris such as Central America Forward.
This project was launched in February 2023 by the administration of Joe Biden and its main objective is to promote “inclusive economic growth” in the region, through elements such as good governance, women’s empowerment, and violence reduction. In this last point, El Salvador stands out for the drop in crime rates as a result of the Territorial Control Plan.
With Central America Forward, commitments of more than $4.2 billion have been raised for El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, and more than $1 billion have been mobilized for the region, according to a press release from the U.S. State Department.
Gordon also shared yesterday the details of this initiative with local investors and business leaders, with whom they seek alliances to move forward with the program; on the other hand, the official visited the facilities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to learn about the Labor Mobility Program with which Salvadoran workers are taken to the United States with H2 visas.
The meeting with Gordon comes a few weeks after the joint statement issued by Minister Hayem and the U.S. Under Secretary of International Trade, Marisa Lago, where they highlighted the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation in digital matters.
The manifesto emphasizes that the U.S. government seeks to support the Bukele administration in the vision of turning El Salvador into a “hub” of innovation and technology. It also mentions actions to strengthen trade and investment relations.
On that occasion, Undersecretary Lago described as “productive and warm” the meetings held with Minister Hayem and local entrepreneurs.
