Today, we announce our arrival in El Salvador through the inauguration of a workspace in San Salvador. With this office, we mark the formal start of our operations in the country to contribute to its digital transformation, the modernization of its government services, and its economic development as the economic hub of Central America.

Since August 2023, when we announced the collaboration agreement signed with El Salvador, we have focused on supporting the country in optimizing its processes and the services provided to citizens, as well as offering training to different government entities. In this line, in addition to announcing the opening of our new office, we want to share the progress we have made as part of this agreement in the areas of digital government, health and education:

  • Digital government. We are working hand in hand with the Government of El Salvador on its path towards the development of simple digital ecosystems for import, export, health, and health registration. This will attract foreign investment, resulting in the economic activation of the country. The next steps will be to continue supporting the government in the development of platforms that enable interoperability between institutions and improve citizen care through digitization.
  • Healthcare. As an important first step, we have trained different government agencies on how to use cloud technologies as part of their operations. We are now supporting the Government of El Salvador in the development of its telemedicine platform with cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to automate processes and provide greater access to health services in the country.
  • Education. Since 2020, Google for Education has collaborated with El Salvador’s Ministry of Education to improve teaching and learning in public basic education. The first phase began by delivering Google Workspace for Education educational accounts to all public basic education students and training teachers. The second phase favored the adoption of the more advanced Google Workspace for Education Plus tools that incorporate artificial intelligence for the personalization of learning. The next step is to continue training pedagogical managers to multiply the digital skills of teachers and students in addition to introducing Chromebooks, laptops with Chrome OS, an operating system manufactured by Google, for fourth-grade students.

These advances in El Salvador place cloud technologies at the center of its efforts toward the country’s modernization and economic development. According to a study we solicited from AlphaBeta, digital technologies such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence can create a potential opportunity for up to $3.4 trillion per year of economic impact in emerging and major economies in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East by 2030. We see our collaboration with the Government of El Salvador as evidence of this potential.

Boosting entrepreneurship in El Salvador

Businesses of all sizes must leverage digital platforms to effectively communicate their message and connect with potential customers. Today we announce that Growth Digital is here to support Salvadoran businesses in this effort by providing them with the tools and expertise they need to succeed in Google Ads. With Growth Digital as an ally, businesses can leverage the power of Google Ads to reach new heights.

In addition to these efforts, Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, will provide a USD 200,000 grant for civil society organizations that we support in the region to offer digital skills training to local entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.

Innovation and technology have helped millions of people around the world to progress. It is the coordinated action of governments, the private sector, and civil society that translates the benefits into economic growth. That is why we remain committed to supporting the digital transformation of countries in the region, harnessing the potential of tools such as AI so that together we can continue to grow.
