Director of the Historic Center Authority
The director told the state television channel that many of the businesses hope to open their establishments in August, which coincides with the vacation period.
In March 2025, the San Salvador Historic Center Planning Authority (APLAN) said it had recorded more than $156 million in investment since it began operating in 2023.
Among the investments are fast food restaurants, hotels, and other types of businesses. The institution also promoted the creation of a one-stop shop.
In terms of public investment, APLAN said at the time that $170 million had been invested in improving the areas, underground cabling, and street repairs.
Projects
The Authority indicated in the Diálogo 21 interview that it is working on a special land use plan.
According to Larín, the institution is about to begin working with the consulting firm hired to establish “clearer” rules for the design and planning of the historic center.
The Authority is currently in charge of about 80 blocks. Larín said that once the entire area has been developed, there is a possibility of beginning discussions about expansion.
Regarding the reorganization of the historic center of the capital, the director said that there are still bars near the Juan Pablo II boulevard that have not yet been included in the initiative, but that they will be taken into account in the future.
Regarding current interventions, the Authority noted that it is working hand in hand with the National Water and Sewerage Administration (ANDA) and the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) on the renovation of the water network.
The director said that during the underground cabling intervention, gullies have been found and addressed.
