The Investment and Export Promotion Agency of El Salvador (Invest in El Salvador) announced last Thursday that 50 local exporters have been included in the national delegation that will attend the seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE), to be held from November 5 to 10 in Shanghai.

“We held a meeting with more than 50 exporting entrepreneurs from El Salvador from various sectors to invite them to the China International Import Expo 2024,” said Rodrigo Ayala, president of Invest in El Salvador, in a publication in the social network X.
According to the official, this approach will be extremely important to find new international clients for domestic production, opening the doors to the growth of the industry.
“These international approaches are extremely important because we demonstrate that beyond Salvadoran borders, we are all one big country team,” he mentioned.
The expo is hailed as an access point for global companies looking to expand their presence in the Chinese market. According to Sun Chenghai, deputy director general of the CIIE Bureau, over the years, companies from 173 countries and regions have attended the event and have carried out tentative transactions worth $424.23 billion.
As of May 8, more than 800 companies from over 60 countries and regions had registered for this new edition of the fair.
In this context, it is important to remember that El Salvador began negotiations with the People’s Republic of China in April of this year for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations. This announcement was shared by the Vice Minister of Commerce of China, Wang Shouwen, and the Minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem.
Shouwen pointed out that China is El Salvador’s third largest trading partner and that last year alone the trade exchange totaled $ 1,800 million, so the establishment of an FTA will increase this dynamic.
For his part, Hayem pointed out that a state-of-the-art agreement is being sought with innovative provisions on issues such as intellectual property, services and investment, economic cooperation and small and medium-sized enterprises.
Last year, the event, whose theme was “New Era, Shared Future”, was attended by more than 3,400 companies, which gathered at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
“Diario El Salvador” attended the 2023 exhibition and was able to witness the dynamics that developed. The halls had samples of products such as coffee, beverages, meats, seafood, frozen and whole foods; also, commercial vehicles, concept vehicles and energy innovations were exhibited.
