An initiative of the president of the Legislative Assembly, Ernesto Castro was approved this Tuesday during the plenary session, consisting that the compatriots who want to return to the country to settle will enjoy tax exoneration when bringing their household goods, as well as 2 vehicles.
“With 78 votes in favor, we issued the Special Transitory Law of Incentives and Preferential Treatment Aimed at Favoring the Repatriation of Salvadorans, which seeks to offer benefits to the diaspora that wishes to return to the country”, wrote the Assembly in X.

Salvadorans residing in other countries and who wish to move their domicile to the country will be able to import a car from home enjoying a one-time tax exemption; as long as the value of the family’s car does not exceed $70,000. In addition, they will be able to bring two vehicles that will also be tax-free.
Castro explained what the law consists of and the benefits it brings to the compatriots who have decided to return and settle in our country.
Congressman Walter Alemán said that the initiative makes history and justice “for Salvadorans who reside outside our borders”.
In the Law, it is clear that financial entities, financial institutions, banks, or cooperatives, will be in the obligation to provide financial services to Salvadorans, who under the protection of said law wish to open bank accounts or make use of financial services.
