The Government’s projection for this year is to exceed the number of international visitors that arrived in 2023. The goal is to receive 3.8 million tourists.

El Salvador continues to be the epicenter of tourism on an international scale and continues to position itself among the four most visited destinations in the world and the first in America that has received more foreign visitors in recent months.

In this sense, the president of the Salvadoran Institute of Tourism (ISTU), Eny Aguiñada, recently stated that for this year the Government expects to exceed the 3.4 million foreign visitors that came to the country in 2023, as well as the generation of foreign currency that reached $3,793 million.

“With the $3,793 million in foreign currency that we received through international tourists, we reached 43% concerning 2022. This motivates us to be able to project ourselves further this 2024. As a tourism portfolio, for 2024, our goal is to receive 3.8 million international visitors, to grow 12% compared to 2023, and to be able to receive $3,800 million in foreign currency income,” she said.

The official added that as a government they have “a big challenge and it is an ambitious goal, we know the boom that our country is having (in tourism) due to the timely actions that President Nayib Bukele has had. The positioning we are having in the eyes of the world allows us to have this accelerated growth”.

He also indicated that the important events to be held in the country this year such as the surfing championships, the Mexican Professional Golf Tour, and the game between La Selecta and Inter Miami, among other events, will allow El Salvador to close 2024 with figures higher than those received last year.

“We are making ourselves known for the good hosts we are, to carry out the different world-class international events such as Miss Universe and the surfing championships, and now golf, among others. We are positioning ourselves as a country that not only offers a tourist destination but also offers to host major international events,” said the head of the ISTU.

On the other hand, Aguiñada highlighted that they will continue working on modernizing the different national parks to also obtain figures higher than those registered in 2023, where 10.3 million visitors were obtained in the different national parks, cultural sites, and natural protected areas.
